You Can't Put a Price On a Welcoming Pub

Summary


May I add a few words to Greg Stephens's letter re The Coachmakers Arms? I have visited recently on several occasions. Prior to this, I had wondered what was so special about this rather basic town pub, with no carpets, plasma TV, background music or fruit machines. Upon sampling the real ales, I began to find out. Then I saw the log fire. There were half-a-dozen regulars in, and a lively debate/argument was under way, but all in good humour. The abiding impression was one of being welcome.

The Coachmakers epitomises the English pub. It is just this sort of good old-fashioned, no-frills establishment that for hundreds of years has acted as a meeting place and so served to knit a community together.
