; 37-Year-Old Invents Sack to Lower Children in Case of Fire

Summary

MUM-OF-THREE Emma Tyler has invented a product which she hopes can save children's lives. Single mum Emma, of Bucknall, was so horrified by a news report about how a child had died after being trapped upstairs in a house fire that she came up with a prototype Evac-Sack for her own young children. A year later she saw a similar story which made her determined to make her invention available to parents. Now she is selling the Evac-Sack on eBay and Amazon and is hoping to attract the attention of national retailers such as Boots and Mothercare. The invention consists of a fire-retardant, breathable sack with reinforced metal rings around the neck with rope threaded through, and is designed to lower young children or pets safely to the ground in the event of a fire. Emma, aged 37, who has worked as a nursery nurse and teaching assistant for almost 20 years, said: "One evening in 2009 I was watching the news when a report was shown about a young child who had died, overcome by fumes when trapped with a parent in a bedroom of a house which was on fire.

"Witnesses said they were helpless as they watched the distraught parent at the window.
