Administrators have begun work to save struggling shoe chains Barratts and PriceLess as retailers deal with some of the worst trading conditions in memory.

The two outlets, which employ 48 workers in Hanley, Stoke, Stafford, Congleton and Crewe, were placed into administration on Monday after suffering from slowing spending.
