Pensioner Peter Ford has been paying pounds2,200 a month for Lucentis, to stabilise the eye condition which threatens to destroy his sight.

Mr Ford, pictured below and above, of Denbeigh Close, Clayton, has been paying to have the drug injected at a private hospital in Birmingham for eight months.
