EXTRA health services will be laid on in the community to prevent patients suffering when hundreds of hospital beds shut in North Staffordshire, a top NHS official has guaranteed.

The reassurance followed a warning from experts that too little out of hospital care is being planned to compensate for the loss of around 260 beds in 2012.
