Summary


OLD photographs tell us about more than fashions, shopping and the styling of motor cars. What this 1930s picture illustrates quite vividly is the difference in the quality of the air we breathed then and now.

In the "then" photo, the large building with arched windows is virtually black from pollution, while The Savoy cinema, Newcastle, in the 1930s and as it is today.
