WHAT does Turkey think of Stoke-on-Trent? To take it even wider, what does the world think of the city? This week I've been astonished to find that most of the people I speak to not only have no preconceived views or ideas about us - they don't even know the city of Stoke-on-Trent exists!
As you read this, I'm in Istanbul for an international academic conference on media and communication. Spare me your cynicism! It's not a jolly and it's not at your expense - it's being paid for by the national professional association I chair. Besides keeping up- todate with research, I'm here to argue for a major conference (the World Journalism Education Congress) to be held in the UK in 2013. The Congress meets every three years - the last was in South Africa. The feeling is that it's Europe's turn.See the full content of this document
