SCORES of agency workers are being drafted in to schools after dozens of staff were left stranded abroad by the volcanic ash chaos.

A total of 31 primaries and secondaries across Stoke-on-Trent were affected by staff shortages yesterday as thousands of families are stuck overseas because of flying restrictions due to ash drifting across Europe from Iceland. Stoke-on-Trent City Council yesterday confirmed the unprecedented crisis meant some 60 school staff are currently unable to return to the UK following the Easter break.
