Summary


Barrie Rutter, above, is an insomniac. He's tried everything, he tells his New Vic audience; he's gone to bed drunk, sober, having consumed tea, having not consumed tea, but still he wakes at 3am like Dracula.

I suspect one of the reasons he's an insomniac - a hypochondriac, he says, before laughing off his slip of the tongue - is the turquoise waistcoat that leers alarmingly from the striped jacket he wears for his one-man show. Either the waistcoat, or the overworked right arm which, as Rutter declaims, flails like a threshing machine, while the underworked left arm meekly holds the papers from which he reads. The right side of Rutter must be exhausted, while the left side has hardly begun.
