Councillor Ankers's call for a referendum by the electorate within the Crewe boundary instead of a 10 per cent petition for the formation of a Crewe town council, should be the norm.

It is 34 years since local government re-organisation made boroughs within Cheshire, and in all that time the petitioners have not thought it necessary for the people of Crewe to have a voice. Let us not have any shouts of a referendum costing pounds250,000 as we had four years ago, as we know that this is not correct.
