PROTEST: Postal workers took to the streets yesterday as part of a campaign to defend hundreds of jobs at a Royal Mail call centre. Members of the Communication Workers' Union (CWU) launched a petition against Royal Mail plans to review its facility at Etruria after news of the proposals emerged in November. Representatives visited Leek yesterday seeking more signatures for the petition and to raise awareness about the union's anti-privatisation campaign. Shaun Pender, recruitment and organising officer at the CWU's Hanley- based Midlands No 7 branch, said: "We wanted to visit Leek because a lot of people in the area work at the Etruria site.
"We're also raising awareness about the Keep the Post Public campaign, which is important for more rural areas like Leek because some of the consequences of privatisation could hit them hard."See the full content of this document
