DEVELOPERS have been given the green light to build 1,100 new homes on greenfield sites following a dramatic seven-hour planning meeting.

Cheshire East Council members have agreed to release open space at two sites to the north of Crewe and one in the south, despite angry objections from thousands of residents. The strategic planning committee met at Crewe Alexandra FC's Alexandra Stadium yesterday to accommodate the crowds of protesters. Speaking at the meeting, Adrian Fisher, council head of planning and housing, said: "These applications have all come forward in response to Government advice about housing supply.
