Presidential Gift Sets Sail to Mark 250th Anniversary ; Washington Monument Heads to White House

Summary

POTTERY giant Wedgwood is to present a model of the world-famous Washington Monument to the White House.

The Barlaston-based firm created the large-scale model of the monument, built in the 19th century as a tribute to America's first president, to commemorate its 250th anniversary and celebrate its historical links with the U.S. Lord Piers Wedgwood, a direct descendant of the company's founder Josiah, accompanied the piece on its journey across the Atlantic last week on cruise line Cunard's flagship vessel, Queen Mary 2. The model, dubbed a Gift Between Nations, will be on show at department store Macy's Herald Square branch, in New York, before heading to Washington where it will be a focal point of a Wedgwood anniversary exhibition.
