I HAVE been trying to get my head round a study which claims contentment comes from viewing the past through rose-tinted spectacles. I once had some rose-tinted spectacles - they were all the rage in the late 1960s - but I never viewed the past through them.

Come to think of it, I didn't see much of the present through them, either.
