I HAVE comments on two of your letters. 'Priorities worked out by what brings in vital revenue' by R Farr of Wolstanton and 'Pushing it' from D Ryder, Burslem, The Sentinel, Friday, August 6. Both of these writers show scant regard for the environment and the pedestrian's plight. I am delighted that yellow lines are painted down the whole of Wolstanton High Street, they should deter motorists parking. The lines are needed to stop the road being blocked and the flow of traffic to run smoothly (this part of the double yellow lines I don't agree with), but it should allow pedestrians to walk safely without cars being parked on the pavement, although this often fails because people are too damned lazy to walk a few yards to the shops. Also, why do people think that if you have two wheels on the pavement that the rules to parking on yellow lines don't apply? I can understand disabled people parking close to the shops, but I am quite sure a lot of the people who park in Wolstanton High Street could have walked into the village, or parked at the supermarkets or the car park in Morris Square.
Admittedly these are probably not adequate if everyone uses their vehicle to get to the village. Ideally, we wouldn't need car parks either. If you are worried about revenue, the amount of damage to roads and pavements caused by vehicles other than bicycles is very expensive indeed, road and pavement repairs are one of the largest expenses from our council tax.See the full content of this document
