Summary
AT MORE than 100 years old, the North Staffordshire Symphony Orchestra certainly has an interesting history. From its humble beginnings in a Burslem timber merchant's shed in 1903 to performances with distinguished soloists and conductors, it has grown to become one of the leading orchestras in the area.
The young and talented musician John Cope, pictured right, was the man to get things off the ground and until 1953 remained its musical director. Tonight, Laurence Perkins takes charge at its annual concert at Stoke's Jubilee Hall. Staffordshire-born soprano Melanie Cotton, headlines the programme with a selection of songs from Strauss and Canteloube. The programme, which starts at 7.30pm, also includes works by Verdi, Dvorak and Sibelius. Tickets cost Pounds 7.50, Pounds 3 for children and students and are available on the door.See the full content of this document
