Summary
Sir, - I attended the meeting at St Thomas More Catholic College on Tuesday night to debate the proposed reorganisations. Referring to the Transforming Schools brochure, Mark Meredith's letter states that parents, staff and governors are being consulted. After Tuesday night's meeting we became aware they had not. We were told by two council and one Serco representative that pupils have been consulted. Again it became obvious that they had not spoken to one child at Thomas More, as the head girl said no- one had approached them to ask for their opinions. In a turnaround, the council representatives said they would accept invites by student bodies to discuss the proposals. The proposal drafted by Serco must be abolished as it becomes more evident that they, as a consultancy, have not consulted those who it will affect.I'd like to know by name who has been consulted because we are told people have when they clearly have not. When a fact like this becomes apparent, everything we are being told becomes untrustworthy and in an age when the Government themselves are failing with our trust, we need to know that those making the decisions on our children's future can be trusted. We were also told that the final decision on the proposal is to be made by two people; our elected mayor and the chief executive officer. This is too big a decision to be made by two men alone.
It should at least be voted on by a council body which has been elected with the constituents having prior knowledge of their representatives' stance on the proposals and on how the proposal is to be drafted.See the full content of this document
