The Wanted - Battleground WITH their second album Battleground, Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes, aka The Wanted, prove they're worthy contenders to steal the boyband crown away from counterparts Take That and JLS. Number one single Glad You Came opens the album in rousing fashion, but with three top five singles, including Lightning and Gold Forever already on the record, the group's work is already partly done. I'll Be Your Strength is an emotional ballad, complete with strings and crescendos before launching into dance beats, while The Weekend is a full-on electro-pop-dance tune. With Battleground, The Wanted show there is no stopping them.
Rating: 8/10 Birdy - Birdy YOU may not know Birdy by name, but the British singer, whose real name is Jasmine Van den Bogaerde, can boast of her covers of Bon Iver's Skinny Love, Ed Sheeran's The A Team and The xx's Shelter featuring on The Vampire Diaries. Birdy's self-titled debut shows off her ethereal voice, which soars in renditions of Cherry Ghost's People Help The People and Fleet Foxes' White Winter Hymnal, and belies her true age, all 15 years of it. The only original song on the album - Without A Word, which she wrote herself - is another sublime and emotional song.
