Further to my slightly sarcastic letter, in The Sentinel, July 31, concerning the construction of the James Brindley Tunstall Northern Bypass, my old friend Mr Doug Green, was quoted as saying that the completed bypass was possibly the best thing to happen in Tunstall as far as transport goes for the last 50 years. I agree and think that in a few years' time, the Northern Bypass will be taken for granted, just the same as the M6 and A500 are now.
While on the subject of transport links, I would like to mention that in my opinion the worst thing to happen during the last 50 years was the closure and complete destruction of the old loop line railway. During the last few years, there have been many calls for the re-building of the railway or perhaps a tram or metro style system, using the route of the loop line from Kidsgrove to Etruria, via the northern pottery towns, including Hanley.See the full content of this document
