Summary
MAJOR MISSION: Work on a Pounds 500,000 project to repair a section of canal bank is expected to take four months. A breach on the Caldon Canal in November resulted in the collapse of 16 yards of canal embankment, damage to the canal bed and its clay lining. About 21 million gallons of water leaked across agricultural land, near the Barnfields Industrial Estate in Leek, and into the River Churnet.
The works started last month. Darren Green, from British Waterways, said: "It's not every day you have to rebuild a 200- yearold embankment and so these repair works have taken a fair amount of planning, but everyone has been very understanding."See the full content of this document
