ONNELEY and Maer are heralding the dawn of a new era - and have even benefited from a spot of divine intervention to help their cause. A long-standing project to return to a new site in Onneley - across the road from their old ground - has finally been achieved after previous spells in the village and up the road in Maer. The club, who have also switched their name - it was Maer and Onneley, but is now Onneley and Maer - are currently operating without a pavilion, but it doesn't appear to have affected their performances in the new surroundings. They are currently third in the Stone League Premier Division, while their second team have put last season's struggles behind them as the local community - and a man of the cloth - have thrown their weight behind the venture.

"There were financial implications for staying at the old ground, but through the late Graham Cooper, and Pounds 10,000 lottery funding, we managed to acquire a field opposite our old ground," said first-team captain Steve Kessel.
