T'S nearly 60 years since a suburban cricket ground was the scene of a shocking tragedy. An RAF Gloster Meteor jet crashed in flames as it flew over Wolstanton March on the outskirts of Newcastle.

It was in October, 1953 that the jet was seen to disintegrate in mid-air and smash into the cricket pitch.
