P Chadwick from Trentham asks the question "How did Mr Ross Irving become leader of the Stoke-on-Trent City Council?" (The Sentinel, June 13) The answer of course is very simple. The democratic process to elect the Council Leader was triggered following the vote to get rid of the mayoral system, which Mr Chadwick campaigned for. As such a leader of the City Council shall be elected by the city councillors from within their own ranks, this process resulted in Mr Irving's election.
Mr Chadwick goes on to say that Brian Ward of the Independent Group, which is a contradiction in terms - are they Independents or are they a party - would have been an ideal leader.See the full content of this document
