A DELIGHTED Harriers 'A' team had to overcome some familiar opposition on their way to winning the Pontin's Tournament in Prestatyn.

The Division One team, runners-up in the Stoke-on-Trent Summer League, entered the 42-team competition alongside Harriers 'B' in the hope of winning the cup and Pounds 150 prize money. The teams met in the semi-finals of the knockout tournament after picking up maximum points in the group stages, and it was Harriers A who won through 14-2. It was their first time in a Pontin's final, but they kept their nerve to beat the Sapphires team from Shropshire 9-2. Harriers captain, Sam Oldfield, said: "Although we had played Sapphires in the group stages and won 22-3, we had no expectations about the final.
