The beehive: Named after its shape, this hairstyle was first seen in America in 1958. It became popular in Britain throughout the 1960s and was achieved through back-combing and lots of hairspray. Holly Golightly, the main character in Breakfast at Tiffany's, played by Audrey Hepburn, famously had a beehive.
