Summary


The bob: The Roaring 20s saw women break away from the puritanical restraints of Victorian society. The increase in female independence saw the emergence of short hairstyles including the bob. Celebrities who have sported a bob include Victoria Beckham.

The beehive: Named after its shape, this hairstyle was first seen in America in 1958. It became popular in Britain throughout the 1960s and was achieved through back-combing and lots of hairspray. Holly Golightly, the main character in Breakfast at Tiffany's, played by Audrey Hepburn, famously had a beehive. In the 1980s, Coronation Street's Bet Lynch continued the trend.
