Summary
It's Enough to induce fits of laughter (if it were funny) to learn that the energy regulator Ofgem has stated that there is no evidence that the recent gas and electricity price hikes are down to collusion between suppliers. In reality, it's the same old story, with all these so-called consumer bodies that are supposed to be there for the consumer in the wake of the repeated pummelling at the hands of the fat cat energy bosses. With the announcement of hikes in energy prices by EDF, and with British Gas certain to follow, most householders will be adding pounds100 to their average annual fuel bills. First it was British Gas to announce the rises and the other companies followed suit, now it seems it is time to take turns in relaying the good news, to offset their appalling agenda. More recently, Ofgem's chief executive, Alistair Buchanan, met Chancellor Alistair Darling to discuss the energy market. Mr Buchanan stated that bills are being driven up by global energy costs. In contrast, many academics are on record as stating this is nothing but a myth, as energy sources are plentiful. A laugh isn't it? Even Dick Turpin had the grace to state 'stand and deliver; your money or your life'.
