Summary
The Staffordshire Adults Autistic Society (SAAS) will be holding its first autism conference on May 7 this year, with national and international speakers with autism talking about their condition and how they live with it. Key speakers will include Carol Povey from the National Autistic Society (NAS); Anja Rutten, a senior lecturer of psychology at Staffordshire University, and previously a worker for the NAS head of autism programmes; Claudia Elizabeth Hughes from America, talking about her ASD and her latest book, Asperger Syndrome: Curse or Chance?; Jessica Peers, the author of Asparagus Dreams, who has Asperger's Syndrome, will be talking about her life living with Asperger; Geneviee Edmonds has a diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome, and is currently completing postgraduate study in Asperger Syndrome and autism. Her philosophy and approach is related to the Social Model of Disability and using solution, as opposed to problem-focused principles; and Dean Beadle, an individual with an autistic spectrum disorder.
