Not only did it see the release of The Amazing Transparent Man, but it was the year the fly-on-the-wall documentary was born. If it hadn't been for 1960, Jane McDonald may never have become famous.
The Camera That Changed The World tells the story of the filmmakers and ingenious engineers who led this revolution by building the first handheld cameras that allowed them to follow real life as it happened. We've got them to thank for Maureen from Driving School. Similarly, the flyon-the-wall documentary genre has given us such landmark programmes as Ice Road Truckers, Danger: Diggers At Work, and Eddie Stobart: Trucks And Trailers. By coincidence there were two separate groups of film-makers, one on each side of the Atlantic.
