Factory Demolition Is the End of an Era ; Jean Beardmore

I decided to put pen to paper to reveal my sadness at seeing the Royal Doulton factory, in Baddeley Green, coming to an end to make room for a few more houses.

I worked there for 26 years and, looking back now, it will be part of my life that I will never forget.

It all started with Allied English Potteries and the jobs for belt attendants that were advertised.

I had never been in a factory in my life, as I had always worked in an office.

I didn't know what I was letting myself in for but a wage of nine pounds and four shillings a week was certainly worth the challenge as at that time, money was scarce.
