Exciting Series Promises Rich Treat for Music Lovers

Summary

Stoke-on-Trent Festival September to June 2011 IF YOU thought the 40th anniversary was something special, this season's Stoke-on- Trent Festival looks equally inviting. Sixteen concerts make up the popular series - which runs from September to June 2011 - including nine orchestral concerts by five different orchestras, five piano recitals, a choral extravaganza and big band special.

The ever-popular BBC Philharmonic kick-start the season at the Victoria Hall on Friday, September 24, with the first of four appearances. Joined by world-renowned pianist Stephen Hough, pictured, and conductor Gianandrea Noseda, the programme is set to include Verdi's Overture: La Dorza Del Destino (The Force Of Destiny), Grieg's Piano Concerto and Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. In the Harding Trust Piano Recital Series, Imogen Cooper is the first of five international pianists to appear at the Forum Theatre, Hanley, when she performs a programme of Debussy and Schumann on Thursday, October 21. Future recitals include Alexandra Dariescu, Artur Pizarro, Paul Lewis and Stephen Hough.
