UNDER-FIRE Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has found an unlikely ally amid the controversy over his goal celebration at the weekend. The Togo international attracted widespread condemnation after running the length of the pitch to celebrate his strike in Saturday's 4-2 win over former club Arsenal in front of the travelling Gunners fans.

However, while former England defender Gareth Southgate acknowledges the potential that kind of action has to incite crowd trouble, he insists players must be allowed to celebrate when they score.
