MADAM, - I wondered if you would be interested in this dedication, far right, by the people of Harpenden, near Luton, given to my father and the other troops of the 5th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment before they departed to France in 1915.

I also enclose a photograph of some of them taken at Butterton Hall near Newcastle shortly after they enlisted (most in civilian clothes) in 1914.
