Summary
WE make no apologies for returning again to the issue of how crime is punished and achieving an equitable balance between retribution and rehabilitation. Yesterday, we noted the surprisingly lenient sentence given to a thug, who, in drink, attacked a dog walker in the early hours of December 25. The unprovoked attack dislocated the victim's shoulder and inflicted other injuries, all witnessed by the dog walker's wife.
But with good references from his employer, the guilty party was ordered to pay compensation and given a suspended jail sentence. Today, we report that a bouncer who cheated the benefits system of up to Pounds 34,793 has been jailed for 12 months.See the full content of this document
