CONGLETON: Olympic gold medallist Ann Packer was today kick- starting celebrations to begin the countdown to London 2012. She was expected at the start and finish of a 60-mile relay between the Shropshire town of Much Wenlock and her home town of Congleton today. Sixteen runners from Congleton were due to take part in the run, carrying a special message of goodwill from Lord Sebastian Coe and from the mayor of Much Wenlock, which is famed for being the birthplace of the modern Games.
Much Wenlock Mayor, Lesley Durbin, and Ms Packer were due to start the relay at 7.30am. It was then expected to take eight hours to reach Congleton, with each of the runners carrying the baton for four miles.See the full content of this document
