AS SHE lay in bed, a massive explosion rocked Ellen Johnson's home. The 12-year-old and her family leapt out of bed and dashed downstairs where they were greeted by a scene of devastation.

She recalls: "The parlour was covered in soot and the window had been blown out and was lying in the backyard, along with my mother's teeth, which she always put in the window when she went to bed.
