CITY: More tenants could be encouraged to buy their council houses under Tory plans to reinvigorate Margaret Thatcher's right to buy scheme. Plans to boost the initiative - which proved a vote- winner for Mrs Thatcher in the 1980s - were announced as the Tories' annual conference in Manchester kicked off yesterday. Right to Buy gives social housing tenants the opportunity to purchase their house at a discount rate.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council currently owns 19,000 homes. A Tory spokesman said: "We are going to make Right to Buy attractive again."See the full content of this document
