Cash Boost Will Be Best Present at Zoo's Birthday Party

Summary

TICKETS have gone on sale for a fund-raising event to help save a cash-strapped tourist attraction.

Blackbrook Zoological Park in Winkhill, Leek will celebrate its 20th birthday with a fun day on Sunday. The site, which has 4,000 birds and animals, is trying to raise as much money as possible to stay open. It costs Pounds 35,000 a month to run and needs a Pounds 70,000 cash injection to make sure it does not shut in the winter. A total of Pounds 10,000 has been collected so far and the anniversary event is planned to generate a further boost. General manager Debbie Hughes said: "We are really struggling at the moment but the support has been fantastic."
