I AM compelled to complain about the atrocious bus system in operation in the Stoke-on-Trent area. Many passengers will agree that we, are taken for mugs. The most notable issues being the price and the late arrival of most services. The number 18 bus, is supposed to journey three times every hour during the daytime period however, this is often not the case. Often two of the same service arrive at the stop together after an extended period of time waiting.
The price is one of the main issues causing dissatisfaction among bus passengers. A further issue is the poor condition of the buses inside. Many of the seats are worn, and at times the odour is, to put it mildly, quite unpleasant. And I have witnessed bus drivers taking mobile phone calls, participating in conversations with passengers (whom I can only assume were friends), and driving at times recklessly trying to make up time. Surely, they can only justify a price hike if they improve the quality and dependability of the service. At present, the service offered by companies such as First is not acceptable. Something clearly needs to be done to improve such services - not only to benefit the 'regulars' but also to encourage a move to 'green' sustainable methods of transportation reducing our dependency on motor vehicles.See the full content of this document
