LEWIS HALDANE is struggling to be fit for the start of the season after losing nearly three stone in hospital. The 25-year-old Port Vale winger left Stafford Hospital on Monday - 12 days after being admitted with an infection caused by a suspected insect bite to his ankle.
Micky Adams insists he will not rush Haldane's recovery ahead of their League Two opener at Bury on August 7. "Lewis has lost around two-and-a-half stone and at the moment he's not able to do any physical activities," said Adams. "We're a couple of weeks away from the season, so I'm not ruling anything out, but it looks like Lewis may miss the start.
