CONGLETON'S Christine Higgs set a new record time on her way to winning the pursuit title at the European Masters Track Championships in Manchester. The 49-year-old, pictured, representing Macclesfield Wheelers, clocked 2.44.79 in her qualifying ride in the 50-plus 2,000m pursuit, before winning the final by a second.

Higgs had already taken bronze in the points race and silver in the 500m time trial, which she had only entered to improve her technique out of the start gate for the pursuit.
