BEARING FRUIT: Children got their hands dirty as they helped to plant trees at their nursery.

A total of 12 apple, cherry and elder trees, as well as rose bushes, were planted at The Croft Day Nursery, in Lancaster Road, Newcastle, yesterday. Nursery nurse Sam Holdcroft said: "The children had a lot of fun planting the trees. "Our hope is that the trees will grow and children will be able to enjoy the fruit in the future."
