SMALLTHORNE Pioneer's Darran Beardmore helped England finish runners-up in the Indoor World Championships in Dumfries, Scotland. It is one of several prestige tournaments the 44-year-old has made his mark in since returning to the sport following a 10-year sabbatical. He was part of the four-man English side which saw off Belgium, Scotland, Germany, Sweden, Isle of Man, Ireland A and Wales to reach the final of the short-mat event.

England's bowlers looked to have maintained their impressive run and were favourites to clinch victory before a daring delivery on the last end pinched an 11-10 win for an Irish B side.
