BBC Proms 2011 - Prom 63 R3, 7pm IN TONIGHT'S prom, Ivan Fischer and the Budapest Festival orchestra perform Mahler's First Symphony and the extra movement Blumine. Around Blumine are two dances by Franz Liszt - continuing the Proms celebrations of his bicentenary this year. Opening the concert is the First Mephisto Waltz and the first half ends with with Dejan Lazic as the soloist in the Totentanz - Dance of Death. Mahler conducted the premiere of his First Symphony in 1889 in Budapest when it had five movements instead of the four it has today. Mahler removed a slow movement that he'd called Blumine - bouquet of flowers - in the 1890s.

Founded in 1983, the Budapest Festival Orchestra is recognised as one of the world's greatest orchestras. It has a reputation for shedding new light on old favourites and is conducted by director and founder Ivan Fisher.
