OPPOSITION is mounting to plans for major developments in a picturesque valley, including further expansion of Alton Towers. The Churnet Valley Conservation Society, which was originally set up in the 1980s to monitor the growth of the theme park, has been revived after lying dormant for decades. The group has re-emerged as new rides and attractions are planned at the resort, which last year attracted more than 2.7 million visitors - a 17-year record.
Future developments include the most expensive ever ride, due to open in 2013, which is set to top the Pounds 15 million spent on Th13teen, which opened last year.See the full content of this document
