Estate Give a Good Clean Up

RESIDENTS, housing staff and an environmental group came together to clear areas of rubbish as part of a neighbourhood clean up. Lift-Off for New Library Upgrade

WORK has started on upgrading a lift at a town's library. A new lift car is being installed at Leek Library, in the Nicholson Institute, which includes features to make it easier to use by the less able.

Office Marks 10th Birthday

A RECORDS centre which provides valuable information about the county's wildlife has reached its tenth anniversary. Staffordshire Ecological Record (SER), a biological records centre based inside the headquarters of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust at Wolseley Bridge, is celebrating a decade of gathering and recording wild species across the county. Its database currently stands at 1.3 million records of plants and animals, and counting.

CHARITY DONATION: Breast cancer survivor Catherine Bennett has donated more than Pounds 2,500 to a charity which supports patients and funds research into the disease. The mother-of-four, of Buxton Road, Leek, raised the cash through a variety of stunts. In December she was granted permission from Leek Town Council to hang bras on a 35ft-tall Christmas tree in Market Place for four days.

REASSURANCES have been given over child protection after funding was slashed for the body overseeing reviews into young people's deaths. The Staffordshire Safeguarding Children Board (SSCB) is to have its budget cut by 10 per cent this coming year and by a further 10 per cent the year after.
