Eclair Ready for Silver Success
LADY Eclair has won with any amount in hand on her last couple of starts and can make her presence felt in the valuable Lanark Silver Bell Handicap at Hamilton. The daughter of Danehill Dancer did not come cheap with connections forking out 360,000 guineas to buy her as a yearling in 2007. The owners have had to be patient as she did not see the racecourse as a juvenile or as a three-year-old, but she began making up for lost time when winning a Kempton maiden on her second start in March.

BURGLAR Craig Sant walked into the men's changing room at the Best Western Moat House Hotel's gym and stole the keys to a BMW. The 33-year-old, who has 167 previous convictions, made off in the car despite being banned from driving, North Staffordshire Magistrates' Court, sitting in Newcastle, heard yesterday.

VIRTUOUS VERSE: A poet is putting her writing skills to good use by donating profits from the sale of her latest book to the Donna Louise Children's Hospice. Elizabeth Leaper, from Eccleshall, has written a book of more than 60 poems for children. It has now gone on sale to help boost charity funds and a signed copy has been presented to staff at the Trentham Lakes hospice.
