FIFTEEN members of a cricket club have been struck down with swine flu in less than 48 hours. Five first-team players at Longton Cricket Club are among the casualties being treated with the anti-viral drug Tamiflu.

Pay Row Set to Hit Trains

TRAIN services through North Staffordshire and South Cheshire face disruption after workers at Arriva Cross Country decided to stage a month of industrial action in a row over pay and working conditions. Industrial action on the service, which serves stations including Stoke-on-Trent, Crewe and Stafford, will include a ban on overtime and refusing to pick up litter from trains.

A BLAZE, which is expected to have put a cable car ride at Alton Towers out-of-action until next season, has been blamed on an electrical fault. A Skyride station at the resort was gutted in the fire on Tuesday, July 21.

TREASURES from the late Les Oakes' collection are due to go under the hammer at an auction at his farm today. The self-styled collector and eccentric businessman built up his own maverick museum at Hales View Farm in Oakamoor Road, Cheadle. More than 500 lots, including gypsy wagons, carriages, fire engines and carts, are due to be sold-off at the all-day auction starting at 10am.
