Emergency Staff Praised

SIR Alex Ferguson has thanked the emergency services staff who saved the lives of his grandchildren after they were involved in a headon car crash. The Manchester United manager's 10-year-old grandson Charlie and granddaughter Grace were taken to Crewe's Leighton Hospital after the crash in Macclesfield on May 7. Six-year-old Grace was treated for minor injuries but Charlie was transferred to Liverpool's Alder Hey Hospital.

3D ILLUSION: A pavement artist made people look again when he drew on a shopping centre floor. Max Lowry, an artist based in London, sketched a large drawing of a kitchen sink that appeared to passers-by in The Potteries Shopping Centre, Hanley, to be three- dimensional. Young Robber Told to Expect Long Sentence

A ROBBER has been branded a "menace" and told he could be jailed indefinitely after threatening to stab a teenager with learning difficulties. Simeon Haven, from Stone, denied robbing the 16-year-old of his mobile phone, but was convicted at Stafford Crown Court yesterday.
